Sounds like you cannot get to demo any mics at a nearby store - shame. For some reason SM57 isn't considered a vocal mic, which is rubbish.
Likely due to either replacement with a newer model or manufacturer discontinuation. For a more studio sound, I've been using the Audio Technica I don't think anyone has mentioned the Shure 55 series yet.
I do not get a. SM57 vs. Personally I like the Electro-Voice ND but there are loads of choices. Not as boomy as the SM Electro Voice ND Pretty bright.

That's a great point, and over time I hope to build me a cache of mics that I can pull from but sometimes you don't always have that luxury.
