ALT is, by far, Rothkamm's most accessible record yet, and for two main reasons: 1 the mystification side of the album — always important in Rothkamm's works — is downplayed and more subtle than usual; 2 the music is akin to ambient electronica. This album offers spare, beautiful and spacious music. The more you listen to it, the more it rewards. This is the music of the Cathode Ray Oscilliscope soaked in binary code where endless reverberations, limitless loop associations and occasional samples provide a backdrop for meditative and transcendental thought. Nice one. It's a diverse collection of sounds. At times merely trying to understand it is hard enough. He is true to form and as playful as ever in his track titling and durations; there is undoubtedly a puzzle in their correlation and one which undoubtedly absolute computer logic is needed to be applied to resolve. Rothkamm's sparing use of samples, such as on "GUI" and "OOO," further enhances the organic feeling of the electronic tones.
