Gah, thank you for posting this! Ask Ubuntu works best with JavaScript enabled. With "Lock mode enabled" you can use F keys as Functions keys.

Asked 7 years, 8 months ago. I accidentally pressed this without even realizing such a feature exists.
My problem is that I need to do this. One thing I did not like about my Dell Inspiron 15 Windows laptop keyboard was the behavior of the Function and Multimedia keys. From Whirlpool's KB article on the Dell Studio The media buttons are switched on by default instead of the F keys so to perform a task.
I use a Dell Studio i.
Just for reference, I have been using a Studio with Vista 64bit for the last 6 months. No 2 options as mentioned above, just an enable and disable option.
